Client

National Highway Authority of India(NHAI)

  • Main Client: NHAI(National Highway Authority of India)
RThe National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) was constituted by an Act of Parliament, the National Highways Authority of India Act, 1988. It is responsible for the development, maintenance and management of National Highways entrusted to it and/or matters connected or incidental thereto.
  • Main Contractor: Dilip Buildcon Ltd
Dilip Buildcon undertakes projects on an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) basis. This includes special bridges and tunnel. DBL is a Class A-V Firm, registered with Public Works Department Bhopal and also with the Water Resource Department Madhya Pradesh.
  • PMC : Intercontinental Consultants and Technocrats Private Limited (ICT)
ICT is an ISO 9001:2015 certified, multi-disciplinary consulting firm registered in India. ICT has over 35 years of experience in providing comprehensive professional services for infrastructure development including Highways, Roads & Expressways, Tunnels, Bridges & Other Structures, Traffic, Transportation & Road Safety, Airports & Aviation System, Railways & Metro Rails, Urban Regional Planning & Smart City Solutions, Building & Architecture, Institutional Strengthening & Capacity Building, Transaction & Project Finance, Water Resources & Public Heath Engineering and Environment & Social Science, etc

NHAI and Dilip Buildcon faced significant challenges in identifying a reliable waterproofing solution for their tunnel project. The solution needed to comply with BIS specifications, it was crucial to implement a highly durable and resilient waterproofing system capable of long-term performance. Additionally, the tunnel's large diameter and height further added to the complexity, necessitating a robust and scalable waterproofing approach to guarantee structural integrity and longevity.

Despite extensive efforts, no other provider was able to deliver a solution that met the technical and performance requirements of this critical infrastructure.

Recognizing the complexity of the project, we proposed an innovative and robust waterproofing system tailored to their specific needs. Our solution incorporated a state-of-the-art PVC membrane  comply with BIS Specification, ensuring long-term durability and reliability. This approach not only addressed their concerns but also instilled confidence in our capabilities, leading NHAI and DBL to entrust us with the waterproofing responsibilities for Ummedpura-Nayagaon Pkg 15.

We provided RVNL and Dilip Buildcon with a Pressure Release Waterproofing System specifically designed for tunnel construction. The system comprises:

  • PVC Membrane (Mirai WPM, 2.0 mm thick): A robust waterproofing layer offering long-lasting protection against water ingress and structural deterioration.
  • Geotextile (MIRAI GTX500, 500 GSM): A high-strength, non-woven polypropylene geotextile that enhances drainage and protects the membrane from damage during installation and operation.

PVC membrane waterproofing is particularly effective in tunnels constructed using methods like NATM (New Austrian Tunnelling Method), which often encounter high-pressure aquifers. These membranes act as barriers against water intrusion, preventing corrosion and deterioration, ensuring long-term durability.
